Roger Claar denounces The Roger Claar Party
'I am the Bolingbrook First Party!' cries angry mayor!

Mayor Claar

For the first time, Bolingbrook Mayor Roger Claar publicly denounced the political party named after him.

"These people have nothing to do me!"  Exclaimed Claar during a press conference following a court hearing about the ballot status of The Roger Claar Party.  "There are only three kinds of people who are members of The Roger Claar Party:  People who are duped into thinking that I am involved with this party.  People who want to use my name for political gain, and people who are down right crazy!"

Founded in 1991, The Roger Claar Party claims to be only political party that "fully supports" Mayor Claar.

"They say that the Bolingbrook First Party doesn't support me.  Well let me tell you something.  I am the Bolingbrook First Party!  When you attack the Bolingbrook First party, you attack my friends, and you attack me!  As long as I am the mayor of Bolingbrook, this fake party will never be on the ballot!"

David Nelson, founder of The Roger Claar Party, said Claar is mistaken about his party.

"Everyone knows that Roger Claar is the best mayor in the world."  Said Nelson.  "But he hasn't always selected the best people to run with him.  Just watch any meeting, and you'll see the trustees bored to tears.  They don't appreciate the greatness that is Roger Claar."

Nelson went on to criticize the current trustees.  "When village employees stole from the village, why didn't Leroy Brown accept full responsibility and sacrifice his political career for Roger?  When Chicago Magazine ran a hatchet piece on our mayor, did the trustees buy every copy in Bolingbrook?  No!  Roger Claar had to stand-alone against these unfair and immoral attacks.  It is obvious to me that the Bolingbrook First party should be renamed the Me First Roger Second party!"

While this is the first time Claar has publicly spoken out against The Roger Claar Party, there have been several behind the scenes conflicts between him, and the party named after him.  In 1992, five members of the party were arrested when they tried to stage a political rally at Claar's home.  In an interview with The Babbler, Nelson said, "we told Roger that the rally was going to be the bomb!  He must have misunderstood us."  Since 1993, supporters of the Bolingbrook First party have successfully sued to keep The Roger Claar Party off the ballot.

In 2005, The Roger Claar Party placed a video on YouTube that featured footage of Village Board meetings.  The video mainly showed footage of trustees edited to make them seem bored or confused.  Then members of the Roger Claar Party were edited in to show how they would react to the same situation.

In the beginning, all the party members are shown greeting Claar by saying, in the style of the famous beer commercial "What's uppppppp!"  Later, a member reacts to a woman complaining about a gas station by saying, "You damn fool!  Who are you to question the judgment of Roger Claar?  You wouldn't be living in Bolingbrook if it weren't Roger, and you thank him with your whining!"  In another scene, a trustee talks about a plan to get Michael Jordan to visit a bowling alley in Bolingbrook.  A party member replies, "What is this Bowling in Bolingbrook crap?  The greatest basketball player of all time should live in the greatest suburb of all time!  Do your job, and convince him to move here!"

The video was pulled after two days.

Testimony in the current court case against The Roger Claar Party is expected to last another week, when the judge is expected to issue yet another ruling against the party.  Previous judges have ruled that using Claar's name amounts to electoral fraud.

Nelson disagrees and has vowed to fight until his party is on the ballot.

"Everyone in Bolingbrook wants to vote for Roger, that's a fact.  We think people shouldn't be forced to vote for the Bolingbrook First Party in order to vote for Roger.  All we want is for the judge to give the people the power to choose how they vote for Roger!"
