Fox to take over Bolingbrook Community TV
Newscorp to promote 'Village values with a Fox Attitude'

Fox BCTV

According to confidential sources, Bolingbrook will transfer management of its public access channel from a non-profit group to a subsidiary of Fox broadcasting, Fox Community Outreach.  The changeover should occur on January 1st.

Sid Lucas, regional director for FCO, would not confirm the takeover, but said that a Fox managed Bolingbrook Community Television would offer improved coverage of the Village.

"For starters, you can actually watch our shows.  Lets face it; most community programs are boring to watch.  Just because amateurs produce a show, doesn't mean it has to look amateurish.  Most of these shows are either a guy droning on in front of a camera, boring meetings, or someone's home movies.  We do better."

While FCO accepts most legal videos from the public, FCO broadcasts the "boring" programs after midnight, while promoting "favorable" programming during prime time.

"BCTV is too passive when it comes to promoting Bolingbrook.  Not that we've researched that.  We need programming that puts a positive spin on Bolingbrook."

That means running more pro-village government programs, says Lucas.  "There's so much negative coverage about Mayor Roger Claar.  It's time to have programming that brings balance to the media."

When asked to cite a negative story about Claar, he would only recite articles from The Babbler.

FCO, if they took over, also promised to make Village meeting broadcasts sexier.  "We think they could use a female audience reporter.  We think someone pleasing on the eyes will result in greater audience retention."  When asked if that was sexist, Lucas replied, "She'll be fully clothed during the meetings!  If we were going to cover them, that is."

Lucas also promises to cut back on the craziness seen on other public access television shows.

"Our in-house talk shows will feature a full range of mainstream beliefs.  One show has a neo-conservative, a values conservative, and an economic conservative.  That's the full range of Bolingbrook's mainstream political thought."

FCO also promises more entertaining programming, like a local version of Cops, and more "extreme" shows aimed at teenagers.

"There are lots of bored teens in Bolingbrook.  We'll get them to do crazy things, and make it look like they though it up and filmed it on their own.  Teens will be happy that they have their own shows.  Parents will be shocked, and demand more police officers to deal with the teen menace.  That means more village employees to keep us safe.  Everyone wins."

When asked about critics who say that Community Television should be an alternative to corporate media, Lucas laughs.  "Five corporations own 90 percent of the media.  We can do better.  If these non-profits can't compete, they should get out of the way.  We give the people what they want.  Even if we have to make them want it."  He added that stations like BCTV should be the minor leagues, where Newscorp can find the next Bill O'Rilley.

No one from BCTV would comment about the story.

Claar would say, "I wish that were true."  As we know, what Mayor Roger Claar wishes for, he usually gets.
